The heat transfer system which we install will then heat your water, which will be taken to your new hot water cylinder to either be used directly in your home, or sent automatically to the boiler for some additional heating.

Solar Thermal – Does it make economic sense?
It makes green eco sense as you are saving CO2 emissions, though the economics are somewhat more complex.

In essence if you have a high cost heating system – Direct Electric, Electric Flow Boiler, Storage Radiators and Immersion, or LPG, then yes it makes economic sense.
If you are on oil or mains gas then the answer is not so simple, the above article suggest savings of up to £75 / year, you then need to add in £50 / year maintenance costs giving a net saving of £25 / year.
So, if you are on mains gas or oil, you will invest in solar thermal because reducing your CO2 emissions is important to you, similarly if you are a heat pump or biomass user, then it will be part of your whole emissions reductions profile.
If you are on electric or lpg, then not only will you be doing something significant for the environment, you will also make a big impact on the actual costs of producing your hot water.
Survey, Quotation and Installation Process
In order to evaluate if your property is suitable for Solar Thermal, one of our trained engineers will come out to your property and complete a free, no obligation site survey. During the visit they will:-
- Ensure that your site is suitable for a Solar Thermal system.
- Ensure that the electrical and plumbing installation is up to date and meets with current safety regulations.
- Check site access and roof conditions for installation feasibility, issues and costs associated to the solar panel installation.
- Obtain the required information to predict the performance of the proposed system
- Confirm if any changes to the hot water cylinder are required.
We will then prepare a detailed site survey report that will include all the above items and send this to out to you along with your quotation. Once you have had the chance to review your quotation you may want to discuss any issues with our team and make any changes that you think are needed.
Once you are happy with the quotation and have obtained planning permission (if required) you can place your order for your Solar Thermal system.
If required, we will arrange for scaffolding to be in place prior to the installation of your Solar Thermal system onto a roof and removed afterwards.
Installation usually takes no longer than a couple of days and once completed you can start enjoying the benefits of Solar Thermal system.
